Nidecker Index Snowboard Boots

The Index is Nidecker's flagship freeride boot, built for limitless backcountry adventures. It features the very latest Nidecker technology and dials up the stiffness for pure big mountain performance, whether you’re hiking lines off the lift or splitboarding into untouched terrain. We’ve constructed it around an asymmetrical upper that conforms perfectly to your foot and calf, with flex zones for unrivalled control without sacrificing comfort.

A water resistant Storm Cover provides extra shelter for your feet and keeps your laces from icing up in deep snow. The lace system itself is BOA’s top-of-the-line H4 Coiler, with a brand new Internal Heel Lock system operated via the side dial and a separate control on the tongue to tighten the shell.

Expect unreal comfort and foot hold. To maximise grip in frozen terrain, we’ve added a premium B.F.T Vibram Approach outsole featuring an Icetrek rubber compound, while dual EVA layers in the midsole reduce vibrations on bumpy terrain and help soften big landings. The outsole blends into the Exo Spine via seamless Transition Zone design, eliminating the chance of snagging the back of your boot on the binding and boosting heelside response.

The solid feel continues up front with a tough TPU shield we call ArmourTech, which protects your toes while you’re kicking steps up that ridgeline. Inside, a Gold Level Wrap Liner provides unparalleled comfort and support, and can be heat moulded for a custom fit. Make no mistake, this thing is the absolute pinnacle of boot technology. From Japanese tree lines to that dream Alaska trip, the Index is expedition-ready.

Specifications

  • Flex: 4/4
  • Terrain: powder 4/4, slope 3/4, park 1/4
  • Hybrid Strap + BOA® – The BOA® Dial, located on the tongue, pulls together the upper and lower part of the boot. Then the BOA® dial on the side activates a double lace that runs through an internal harness connected to the shell and tongue. When tightened, it creates a locking sensation and provides 3D heel lockdown. On both sides, lateral locking is done via the ankle strap and frontal locking is done via the laces that run through the tongue and tighten the tongue towards the instep.
  • Internal Heel-lock – Say goodbye to heel lift. An internal harness attached to the shell and tongue is tightened via the external BOA® side-dial. Laces enter from both sides and travel through the tongue section, firmly enclosing the ankle while pulling it back into the boot for incredible, three dimensional foot hold.
  • Vibram® Approach sole - a premium ICE-TREK compound sole that excels in grip on icy surfaces and has improved heel and toe traction. EVA midsole for maximum comfort.
  • OC Kush – Shock-absorbing dynamic gel pads are inserted into the outsole around the heel area. This extra cushioning helps you soak up heavy landings and reduces fatigue from bumpy snow. It also makes your boots super comfy to walk around in.
  • Diamond Level Liner - A premium lightweight inner liner that has a special tongue placed on the outside for consistent front flex. The liner is heat-moldable and has waterproof 3M Thinsulate insulation, EVA sole and memory foam for maximum comfort in demanding mountain conditions.
  • Velcro Closure – quick and intuitive fastening of the inner liner with Velcro.
  • 3D Triple-Density Insole – Most advanced 3D insole is designed to perfectly cradle your foot. It's constructed from three densities of EVA, with firmer material supporting the heel cup and arch and a special high-rebound layer at the heel. A fleece-lined footbed with silicone top-print keeps you warm and secure.
  • Custom Calf - the so-called the wings on the back of the outer structure can be adapted to a larger calf with Velcro.
  • 3D Molded Tongue – 3D molded tongue provides an anatomical fit around the shin and reduces pressure points for greater comfort and tuned support.
  • 3D Molded Toebox – the toe is made from one piece to eliminate seams, reduce size and extra durability. It also makes it easier to slide in and out of the binding.
  • Asym 3F – asymmetrical boot shape and fastening for optimal support and flexibility. The anatomical shape provides great performance and feel. Designed in collaboration with the BOA system for ultimate comfort and performance.
  • ArmorTech - TPU strap that wraps around the front of the boot, protects the material from abrasion and protects the toes against toe impacts.
  • Exo-Spine Technology – a durable back panel that forms a seamless connection with the sole, guarantees instant energy transfer from heel to toe, extra stiffness, support and increased durability.
  • Space Blanket – thermal insulation between the sole and the bottom of the inner liner to keep the cold outside and the heat inside.
  • 1:1 Lasting – Nidecker designed unique shapes for men's, women's and children's boots. Each size has a maximally adapted construction, and in addition, the boots have an anatomical, heat-moldable inner liner. Boots with an 8° tilt offer the perfect balance between comfort and performance.
  • Storm Cover - A water-resistant PU/mesh cover with zipper. The Storm Cover keeps feet dry for long days in deep snow conditions and features a 3D engineered knit to perfectly match the shape of the boot. Stretchable material at the top eases closure.
  • 1% For The Planet - Nidecker sends 1% of sales directly to non-profit organizations fighting climate change.

How to choose snowboard boots

Choosing new snowboard boots? It doesn't have to be a big unknown. There are several parameters that are crucial to choosing the right boots. The main ones are size and overall flex.

In addition to the article, check out the video tutorial in which our advisor Dominik tells you what you should consider when choosing snowboard boots »

Boot size

The size chart, which you can find in the detailed description of all snowboard boots, will help you choose the right size. If you don't know the size of your foot according to the chart (UK, US, EUR), you can easily measure it at home. Take a ruler or a meter and measure your entire foot from the heel to the end of the longest finger. The MONDO sizing in the table is given in centimeters. The boot should then be half a centimeter larger than your foot.

Keep in mind that it is important that you try the snowboard boots in socks in which you will later ride. Tighten the inner shoe as much as possible and fasten the boot as firmly as if you were going straight down the slope. The shoe should hug the leg perfectly after the tightening. Even before you go on your first snowboarding trip, it's good to put the boots on at home and walk in them for a while. Once you spend about half an hour in them, you should immediately see if the boots fit well and don't squeeze your feet. Your foot must not move in the boot and neither should your heel lift. It is also good to know that it is necessary to spend more time choosing women's boots compared to men's boots. Women's feet have different shapes, so they need enough time and space to choose the appropriate snowboard boots. And the last, but a very important detail: watch out for the difference between the right and the left foot. Always therefore try both boots.

Even if you choose the right size, your boot may not fit perfectly. It may be too wide, low in the instep area, or it will squeeze your ankle - there are many reasons why not each pair in the world will fit you and it is hard to estimate them all in advance. Therefore, we try to do our best to make your purchase as trouble-free as possible. If you buy snowboard boots from our store that don't fit you, you have the opportunity to replace them, or we will provide you with the full refund. Just send the boots back with a proof of the purchase. If you happen to find yourself in this situation, you can find more information in the Returns section.

Flex (stiffness) of the boot

The stiffness of the snowboard boot is related to the specific riding style on the slope. Freestyle boots are softer, which allows for greater freedom at bends over the tongue of the boot. For freeride, that is, fast and aggressive riding, stiffer boots are better, giving you more support through the tongue and the ankle area.

Classic laces, Boa, or Fast Lace system?

Manufacturers of snowboard boots offer along with classic laces also various fast lacing systems. Thanks to them, it is possible to tighten the boot much faster and with less effort. That way you can spend more time riding. The first of them is fast lacing system (Fast Lace or ATOP). Some systems - such as the Boa system of Nidecker and Burton - even allow the tightening of the instep and shin area separately. Fast lacing systems are reliable and proven, but as it goes with the quality gear, the boots with such systems are also more costly.

Boot liners

For the ultimate in comfort on the hill, don't forget about the boot liners. They have cushioning properties, but are also anatomically shaped, breathable and support the foot arch. In short, it's all about the details. At the moment, you can get snowboard boot liners in all sizes, so whether you have small or big feet, you will definitely find the right ones!
