Chevron: A Pillar of Black Crows Design
10th November 2022 | 0 comments
Chevron is a graphic element that symbolizes the Black Crows brand. Its shape evokes the silhouette of a flying crow. The newly rendered Chevron adorns this season's Black Crows ski design.
A couple of answers to interesting questions about the design of Black Crows skis
Yorgo Tloupas, the Paris-based creative director of the Black Crows since the beginning, will tell you all about the new graphics and symbolism on the doorstep of the chevron's 16th season.
@sophhhc: Why Chevrons / what makes this season different?
@yorgotloupas: Chevron is the cornerstone of black crows identity, it's the easiest way to draw a crow. Its shape follows a certain pattern, but there's a catch. We have two slightly different chevrons. One that I would call the "geometric Chevron" (made up of three squares), which we use on certain applications (clothing is one of them), and the "original Chevron" (the Chevron "branches" are a bit longer).
This season, we've again used a very simple system that builds on our line inspiration from two years ago: graphics help you understand what the skis are designed to do. Thin line, thin Chevron - downhill; medium line, medium Chevron - all terrain; big, widest line, big Chevron - big mountain. Super simple.

@yann_hst: I'd like to see the skis in full black, how is the color decision made?
@yorgotloupas: We have kept the Black Crows identification colors, for example Nocta will have some orange, Orb yellow, Corvus pink... The difference is that most of the background is white, the logo is black and the chevron pattern is in the color of the ski. Except for the Freebird line, which remains a solid color, and the Birdie and Junior lines, which have more colors.
@alfo12: what is your favourite ski design?
@yorgotloupas: I like Serpo. I think the stark contrast between the surface topsheet and the very light sidewalls is very successful in practice. On the piste, the Serpo works very well and I feel like I get a pretty aggressive ride out of the Serpo.
