Since 1980, ORTOVOX has been dedicated to protecting alpine sports enthusiasts. With its new electronic airbag system, it represents a major milestone in avalanche safety.

In the 23/24 winter season, ORTOVOX will strengthen its position as the leading mountain sports safety expert with another milestone. In collaboration with the Canadian brand Arc’teryx, the South German company has developed an airbag system for avalanche backpacks that sets new standards: LiTRIC is electronic, lightweight, intuitive, reliable, sustainable, flexible and 100% produced in Bavaria, South Germany.

The AVABAG LiTRIC series from ORTOVOX includes specific TOURING and FREERIDE models that can be combined with the LiTRIC BASE by means of the modular ZIP-ON system.

Best Features of the New System

Electronic control and power = no cartridges, no travel limitations

The system can be fully charged in approx. 25 minutes via USB-C and activation can be tested any number of times at no additional cost. The lack of a cartridge means: more room, no weighing necessary, no cartridge disposal, no travel limitations.

        Lightweight

At just 1,100 grams, LiTRIC is one of the lightest airbag systems on the market – thanks to its clever design, ultra-lightweight airbag and supercapacitors instead of cartridges.

Intuitive to Operate and Easy to Pack

LiTRIC AVABAGS are extremely easy to use: A LED display on the backpack shows the system’s charge level; the leg loop is attached to an additional loop via carabiner; the ergonomically adjustable activation handle with Bowden cable protects against false activation by means of a simple 180° turn; the 150l airbag is made using a two-layer material that can be easily packed away in the airbag pocket; a new closure system prevents the airbag pocket bursting, no matter how full the backpack is.

        Reliable and Durable

The LiTRIC system is TÜV certified, can be activated multiple times and one charge is enough for at least two activations. Its operation time when switched ON is approx. 60h (30 days when switched OFF), which allows for multi-day tours with no need for recharging. The combination of supercapacitors and an extremely cold-resistant, lightweight 25g lithium-ion battery guarantees safe, resource-efficient operation. And a radial high-performance compressor with axial diffusor fills the airbag in four seconds.

              The AVABAG LiTRIC Series

The TOURING MODELS (40, 30, 36S and 28S) are perfectly designed for ski touring: very comfortable, made with lightweight yet robust materials, and feature a circumferential zipper, ice axe holder, and ski, splitboard and rope attachments. The base is also compatible with the Freeride zip-ons.

Thanks to the body-hugging COMFORT BACK SYSTEM, the FREERIDER (28, 18, 26S and 16S) offers an excellent fit and freedom of movement. Features include ski, snowboard and ice axe fastenings as well as a helmet holder and quick access to the main compartment. The base is also compatible with the touring zip-ons.

The collection also includes the AVABAG LiTRIC Zero 27, a highly technical purist that weighs just 1,970 grams! Its focus is on the essentials: minimal weight, maximum safety. And it not only provides enough packing space, but also offers all the important features such as hydration system compatibility and attachment options for skis, ice axes and poles. The Zero 27 is not compatible with the zip-ons.

              The ORTOVOX ZIP-ON System

For maximum versatility – from short freeride sessions to multi-day tours – ORTOVOX has created a zip-on system that enables a flexible combination of LiTRIC Avabags.

The LiTRIC BASE – consisting of back system, shoulder straps, hip belt and LiTRIC airbag – is available in two variants, each specially designed for their intended use: the TOUR and the FREERIDE. They are each available in two back lengths and can be combined with all four zip-on bags of the same back length using a secure locking system.

The versatile TOUR BASE is very comfortable for long ascents and combines light weight with outstanding stability. Thanks to CLASP back technology – a wide, flexible hip belt and soft shoulder straps – the FREERIDE BASE sits extremely secure while offering complete freedom of movement. It is compatible with the CLASP back protector.
