Natural and Sustainable Sun Protection from Swox

The formulas are suitable for sensitive skin, they are made of mineral sun filters and have eco-friendly, organic and sustainable ingredients.

The packagings of SWOX sunscreens are also made of recycled and recyclable materials. The creams contain coral-reef safe UV filters and certified organic ingredients. Mineral UV filters are used for SWOX water-resistant sunscreens. Their products are manufactured exclusively in Europe to minimize transportation distances.

The Swox Story

It all started in the water while surfing in Australia in 2009. Three friends and surfers from Germany - Tim, Ralph and Max - could not find a sunscreen on the market that would give them the high level of protection they needed while surfing.

Stinging eyes, slippery hands, rashes from sweat mixed with sun lotion…every outdoor sportsman knows what that feels like.

For these three surfing-loving entrepreneurs, it was particularly important to create a sunscreen that would be extremely waterproof and would not use any unnecessary chemicals that could cause skin irritation, such as perfumes, or that could be harmful to humans or the environment. So, together with dermatologist Tim Peltz, they created a cream with high sun protection and water resistance. And thus the SWOX was born.

The first SWOX product on the market was a mineral zinc cream. Due to its popularity, it is still available today. The hypoallergenic formula is free from parabens, alcohol and perfumes and comes in an eco-friendly packaging manufactured from sugarcane.

It wasn't long before rumors of a new sunscreen made just for surfers spread. The days of stinging eyes and slippery hands are finally over! More importantly, it has made it easier for surfers to prevent sunburn and reduce the risk of skin cancer and premature skin aging, even in the harsh conditions they face in the water.

Coral Reef-Safe

Harmful concentrations of sunscreen filters have been measured in areas where humans spend time near coral reefs, for example while swimming, snorkeling and surfing.

In response to that, Hawaii, Florida and certain regions in Australia and Mexico have issued a ban against cosmetics and sun protection products that contain UV filters which are proven to be harmful to coral reefs. The implications at SWOX are that all new product formulations will not only steer clear of the ingredients which have already been proven hazardous, but also those ingredients which are currently still considered as "reef-safe", but are also scientifically disputed. It is therefore completely legitimate to say that SWOX products are reef-safe and the brand will continue to revise product formulations to reflect the most current scientific knowledge.

Today, SWOX products, manufactured exclusively in Europe, are also used by other athletes: snowboarders, kiteboarders, windsurfers and skiers. Everyone agrees that SWOX is simply an ideal solution for water as well as for the mountains.
