Forest to Forest. Sustainable Production of Arbor Snowboards
6th January 2020 | 0 comments
Snowboarding, splitboarding, surfing and skateboarding. In order to enjoy the sports we love, it is necessary to protect our largest playground - nature.
This is precisely why more and more brands are moving towards sustainable development and production processes that have less environmental impact. Arbor is one of them. The path of sustainable development has been on its way since its inception in 1995. Under the name of Arbor Snowboards, great snowboards began to emerge, which quickly attracted the attention of many riders. The desire and passion for other board sports as well as the idea of further growth of the brand have been added to sustainable production principles.
In Arbor, they decided that in addition to spreading the brand, they would like to support the community and create a group of people with the same interests. The brand was gradually renamed to Arbor Collective. They bring together athletes and artists to help them fulfill their sustainable mission. We have some interesting facts about what sustainable production looks like in Arbor's case. The whole process consists of several parts.
Wood from Sustainable Sources
Everything starts in the forest. Arbor uses wood from forests that are regularly renewed. In addition to that, most of their material is bamboo wood, which grows faster. All suppliers that Arbor works with are FSC certified to ensure that forests are managed in a sustainable way.
Less is Sometimes More
Thanks to modern technologies in production, it is possible to maximize usable part of raw materials. The wood waste can thus be reduced to a minimum.
Green Production and Factory
The Arbor factory will fulfill its promise of 100% solar power in 2020. It uses a smart closed system that captures and filters any water that can be reused in production. There is always a possibility of use of the wood that remains in production.
Each Snowboard has its Bright Side
Arbor snowboards are made of sustainable components. All edges are made of recycled steel, the top layer is natural-based nylon, and each board is waxed with natural fluorine-free wax.
Improved Resin Recipe
Entropy Super Sap Resin is a plant alternative to conventional glue that is normally used. Thanks to this, up to 40% less carbon dioxide is released into the air during production. Way to go!
Returning Roots
With the Returning Roots project, the entire cycle closes and can begin again. This campaign aims to restore Koa forests in Hawaii. The symbolic name of Returning Roots does not only mean the roots of the trees that put Arbor back to nature, but also returning roots of our favorite sports. It is their tribute to what was here long before us.
In addition to these enhancements that make production lines greener and more environmentally friendly, Arbor is also working closely with several environmental nonprofit organizations - The Conservation Alliance, the Surfrider Foundation and the Arbor Day Foundation.
So next time you ride down the slopes or swish through powder with Arbor under your feet, you can not only enjoy a great board, but also praise the company that thinks of its surroundings.
