Czech brand Horsefeathers is one of the oldest in our portfolio. We had the opportunity to watch closely how the Pilsen brand was gradually becoming a number one among Czech brands producing snowboarding outerwear. Let's briefly review its history and key milestones!
Horsefeathers managed to project its bold ambitions on the European market and thus join the big world snowboarding brands. This was achieved due to the perfect combination of creativity, purposefulness, organizational skills and the courage to set high goals. This year it celebrates its 30th anniversary. Today's form of snowboarding is difficult to compare with the one thirty years ago, when the whole sport was still in its infancy. Not only were there no social media and free wifi. But worse still, there were no snow parks anywhere! Snowboarding represented something new in 1989 and maybe a little odd for many people. Nevertheless, it was extremely attractive. It had a spark in it that attracted many people. Riding a board symbolised a defiance to the ubiquitous mainstream.
It was at that time that the foundations of Horsefeathers were being built. Where? Not in Europe, but a few thousand kilometers away on the North American continent. More precisely in the southwest of Canada in British Columbia. Here Hanuš - one of the founders of the brand - spent his spare time as s student with a bunch of friends on snowboard and trained various tricks. In addition to his skill with the board, he caught a key phrase that was often used by one of his friend's grandmother: “That's horsefeathers!”.
In translation it means that something is a nonsense. The word “horsefeathers” has become a common catch phrase for this crew of snowboarders during countless hours of riding the hills in and around Rock Creek. For fun, they even created a Horsefeathers logo that was supposed to be their hallmark.
After finishing his studies in 1992, Hanuš went on a trip to Europe, where he met Pavel Kubíček. The boys got along very well and decided to set up a brand. The combination of snowboarding as an activity that goes beyond traditional sports and the notion of "horsefeathers" as nonsense matched perfectly. The name Horsefeathers was thus a clear choice. The first brand collection was launched in 1993 and included 50 T-shirts and 200 stickers.
And then? Then everything caught just the right pace. The first official team, the first team video, the well-known event Horsefeathers City Jib in Pilsen and new and new collections, which were more functional thanks to new materials. Since 2015, Horsefeathers boasts a great and global snowboard team. Good luck in the years to come, guys!
