Nitro Snowboards: 30th Anniversary
24th December 2019 | 0 comments
The Nitro Snowboards were founded in 1990 at Vera’s Cafe, Seattle, USA by two enthusiastic snowboarders Thomas Delago and Sepp Ardelt. Their passion for riding in the mountains has evolved into a desire to create their own products and technologies, making thus snowboarding accessible to as many people as possible.
Over the past thirty years, Nitro has launched a number of key technologies and products on the market. These include, for example, the first mass-produced splitboard, asymmetric camber profiles, a mini disc system for attaching bindings, the first women's snowboard PRO model and the largest number of signature snowboards compared to other brands.
From day one, Nitro has been dedicated to supporting snowboarding communities around the world through global team and local riders, shops, distributions and media. The reason is simple - Nitro was founded by two boys who were, and still are, devoted snowboarders. Thirty years have changed a lot, but the passion has remained the same. This is also evident from the recent documentary movie 28 Winters, which was presented two years before the 30th anniversary of the brand.
Nitro as a brand has never been taking itself too seriously. Snowboarding is something people do for fun, there is no reason to try to be overly cool. It is much more important to inspire people around yourself and motivate them to ride the board. The new feature film Nitro OFFLINE is a bright example of where Nitro is after the 30 years. It's a group of people who try to inspire snowboarders and non-snowboarders around the world to remember to take a break from the hectic online world we live in to go out and enjoy a few offline moments.
In the early days of Nitro, there was virtually no online world. Thirty years later, this is one of the problems we face. We all became kind of prisoners in the online world. At Nitro they believe that snowboarding will continue to be an escape from this online world, an escape back to reality, back to snowboarding, friends and moments spent together that are of the greatest value.
"Time flies, and frankly, Sepp and I had no idea when we started working on the first collection in 1989 that a year later we would set up a brand that would be Nitro thirty years later. We are excited about the way snowboarding has gone and where we got, too - we still run our own snowboarding brand. The fact that I could dream of any board I wanted and be there as it comes to life was, and still is, the most exciting feeling. It may sound pathetic, but I always feel excited to see someone using one of our products, and the fact that this person has spent their hard earned money on a piece of equipment that we have designed and manufactured. It makes me feel humble and at the same time I have a great appreciation for our team. We take it quite seriously and will continue in what we have done with the last 30 collections: turn our dreams into reality and make sure our customers experience the same joy and excitement that we have in designing and testing. Have a great winter."

co-founder of Nitro
Nitro Snowboards is one of the oldest snowboarding companies in the world and one of the last to be owned by a private entity, which everyone in Nitro is very proud of. It's great that over the past thirty years, anyone who bought a Nitro product has supported the global snowboarding community, for which Nitro feels gratitude towards all snowboarders, from beginners to veterans. Without people there would simply not be any snowboarding. It is built on people, passion and fun and we all look forward to the next thirty years of Nitro snowboards.
