Comfort and Quality

The Burton crew had the initial idea of creating a strapless binding a few years ago. The team, led by Jake Burton Carpenter, gradually began to work more and more on the design of a binding that would not need to be tightened to the boot for a long time.

What moved the Burton team closer to the final product was the desire to overcome the conventional wisdom that there is nothing better than a strap binding. They set high expectations and weren't going to rest until they achieved their goal of creating a product that offered both a great riding experience and sufficient comfort. Without compromise.

Four Engineers is All It Takes...

No, that's not a joke in this case, it's the story of Step On binding. This group of developers was given a rather strange task a few years ago: to immediately stop working on everything that had been their job up to that point. Step On was a challenge to which they had to devote all their energy and knowledge. For these special purposes, they had a specially created space, the so-called white room, where all the intricate nuclear physics took place. It should be noted that the first models did not look very glorious. But the important thing was not to give up.

Based on a system from the late 90's

The Step On technology is based on the Step In patent that Burton developed in the late 1990s. The technology worked well, but the system didn't quite catch on in the snowboarding world and stopped being popular, so Burton turned its attention back to strap bindings. About 9 years ago Burton came back to this idea, put together a team of experts and created a completely new and special technology and perfected this system. Testing on special equipment designed specifically for Step On boots and bindings, extreme conditions in the lab and in the field, the most demanding riders - the result is the absolutely perfect Step On binding and boot system. This was the motivational phrase that accompanied the entire team from start to finish. Magnets, screws or glue were used to realise all kinds of designs. But the true model of the binding was the one with the triple grip system. It most closely resembled the classic binding as we all know it, while providing riders with a firm fit of the boot to the binding and an excellent ride.

A huge challenge for Burton was to provide the Step On model to the world snowboard legend Terje Haakonsen for testing. Why? If this rider does not like some snowboarding equipment, he will simply never use it. But when it came to Step On bindings, he was just so impressed with the binding from the beginning, that from the moment he tried it, he totally fell in love with it.
