The Family Tree

Countless riders have contributed to all the great successes in designing the Burton board. But one snowboarder has affected the mark much more than others. The snowboard icon and world's champion Craig Kelly was the one who was pushing the brand Burton forward. In the 1990s, he followed the rule of constant innovation. He insisted on bringing the innovations in the production of snowboards, shoes, bindings and even apparel. He died at the age of 36 when he was swept away by an avalanche in Canada. Burton opened a factory in 2011 and named it The Craig's Prototype Facility for the memory of Craig.

But how is this story related to The Family Tree? The Family Tree project comes with original freeride designs. Innovations in the shapes of boards, used technologies and sustainability are the three major pointers in snowboard manufacturing. The unlimited projects and ideas of Burton designers, riders and snowboard fans are taken seriously in The Family Tree and the ideas are turned into reality. The Family Tree follows Craig Kelly's traces and his creative mind. Everyone can find here a perfect freeride board – whether you're a man, a woman or a child.

All The Family Tree boards guarantee that they are made of FSC Certified Wood. This means that for the manufacture of each board is used timber in accordance with responsible forest management. At the same time, the brand insists on using exclusively natural materials. The aim of this step is to reduce the carbon footprint which is produced during the manufacturing processes. In addition, Burton is committed to the environment and uses compostable and recyclable packaging of snowboards.

The Role Model

When we talk about The Family Tree, it means that kids are included as well. Why not to show them an unforgettable freeride? Burton has noticed that there are more and more of little snowboarders on the slopes who long for a quality snowboard and a great performance. This all-mountain piece in directional camber design can handle anything.

The Stun Gun

This board has two personalities. On groomers, it rides aggressively. At the same time, it can perfectly flow through the deep snow as well, where it moves with absolute ease. A more curved nose of the snowboard allows crawling in powder.

The common problem usually is that a board behaves perfectly on a hard surface, but is not capable of driving in deep snow. The original idea of the Stun Gun model was to combine the length and cross-section of the snowboard that are typical for the groomers and to adjust the final shape of the board for riding in powder snow.

The Flight Attendant × Split

Model The Flight Attendant is the answer to the demands of all backcountry riders. Ideal board for someone who wants to reach the best tracks in deep snow. All our years of experience in designing the Mystery model have been linked to the vision of „I can handle anything and anywhere“ of the freeride Flight Attendant. The result is an extremely light and elegant board in a perfect shape.

The Trick Pilot

The result of Mark Sollors and Mikey Rencz's work is The Trick Pilot. These two great backcountry riders needed a board which would manage all the pops and wild rides. They were looking for a camber which would be capable of driving in deep snow. And that's how the third Family Tree Tree series originated. It flawlessly rides in any type of terrain and even enables big jumps. The nose is shaped specifically to allow not only to ride in deep snow but also to land in it.

The Speed Date

To build the best model of slalom snowboard was the goal that Burton set for itself and named it The Speed Date. And the brand decided to work on it with the great slalom rider Terje Haakonsen. They chose to change the torsional flex – instead of the usual bend from the heel to the toe, it is applied from side to side. The result is an extremely rigid board at the contact points and also very soft between the bindings. This innovation provides the perfect balance during a ride and the ability to instantly change direction.
