How to... Snowboard

Do you know how to take care of your board? Each snowboarder should know what shape is their snowboard in. In this article you will learn a bit about how to keep your snowboard in a good shape.

Waxing the base

Some snowboards are ready to hit the slopes right away after you take them from the store, but most of the snowboards need to be waxed before the first ride. If you do not dare to do this yourself, contact a professional service center. But waxing is not that difficult at all, so you should give it a try.

You will need an iron for waxing - either get a special wax iron or an old household iron will serve you well, too - but beware, you can heat this one only to the lowest temperature! Place the snowboard with the base up (e.g. between two chairs), heat the iron, tilt it over the base and melt the wax gradually.

Then drip the wax over the entire surface of the base and then iron it carefully towards the sides. Allow the applied wax to cool. Waxing is meant to fill miniature pores in the base with wax to make it perfectly smooth. The remaining wax should be scraped off. A plastic scraper will serve well for this. Scratch the wax in the direction of riding. Finally, brush the rest of the wax with a special brush and polish the entire base with a fleece cloth (a piece of old flannel shirt will also serve well).

As soon as wet snow starts to stick on the base or snowboard gets stuck while riding, it's time to wax the base. Prior to this, however, it is necessary to remove the leftovers of old wax with a wax remover and clean the entire base.

              Edge grinding

Snowboard edges become dull over time and need to be sharpened. This is the time for grinders to step in. At the end of the winter season, we recommend putting the snowboard in a specialized service center to sharpen the base and the edges.

              Servicing the base

When you ride your snowboard regularly, you can't avoid the fact that over time the base will show a series of grooves, scratches and dull edges. In this case, we recommend that you take the board to a specialized service center.

The base surface and the edges are sharpened with the grinding stone. The scratches are thus removed and the edges are sharpened. If the scratches are deep, they are filled with a special material to repair the scratches. You can repair the grooves on your own with kofix sticks, which you melt and drip into the groove. Scrape the excess material off with a special scraper.

After the grinding of base and edges always wax the base!

In our store in Brno, we also accept snowboards for service. Just bring the board to us and we will take care of it!

              Snowboard storage and transport

For the transport and storage of the snowboard, it is necessary to get a board bag in which you can conveniently store not only the board with bindings, but also boots (one between the bindings, the other above the top of the board). Board bags are usually equipped with a shoulder strap and a pocket for tools. Some board bags are padded, and they also have shoulder straps that allow them to be worn on the back (the straps can be hidden in a zippered pocket to prevent them from interfering when wearing over the shoulder).
