Fox and Troy Lee Designs' bike helmets received high ratings in an independent test by Virginia Tech. This prestigious state institution evaluated 261 bike helmets based on crash tests and our models took several positions, including the highest!

How the Helmets Are Rated

Virginia Tech's bicycle helmet ratings are based on independent testing of helmet performance and are not influenced by any manufacturer. Each helmet receives a score based on the results of 24 impact tests on a drop tower specifically designed to simulate the helmet hitting the ground while cycling. Each impact measures linear and rotational forces that are related to the risk of concussion. Six locations on the helmet are assessed, with medium and high impact energy. The impact velocities were determined based on helmet damage studies. Each impact is factored into the final score, the risk of concussion is assessed and the overall rating is determined. The lower the score, the better protection the helmet provides.
